Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Released: 1982

thoughts (***)

criteria analysis:
  • franchise - Material that literally redefined Star Trek's legacy.
  • series - It actually reflects the TV show nicely.
  • character - The lack of character depth, in effect repeating what its predecessor said about Kirk while hinging Spock's appearance on his emotional death scene, is to my mind its greatest weakness.
  • essential - Weirdly, it's that death scene that truly makes this movie work as well as it does, filling in everything that was missing in the rest of it, and so in a few minutes makes a weakness into a strength.
